The Crucible of Divorce

Salli's Divorce Support Blog

Divorce is one of the most painful experiences we can have on earth. Losing a spouse to death is a challenge that tries our souls--yes. But divorce represents a failure on the most personal level. Even if you gave your marriage, and your spouse, the very best you had to offer, in the end divorce represents a sad defeat.

Consequently, as we face divorce we may experience diminished levels of confidence, happiness, and hope for the future.

Unfortunately, so much of value depends on us being at our best during this trying period of our lives: our children, our livlihood, our testimony, our relationship with God. Winston Churchill said: "Sometimes it is not good enough to do your best; you have to do what is required."

But what I have come to understand from facing the challenges of divorce and moving forward is that the Lord grants us the ability to do whatever we have to in righteousness if we take His hand. We can do hard things. And we can do them well.

The holidays represent a special kind of trial while you face divorce, so be proactive. Remember, look for someone else who has challenges bigger than your own and give them a helping hand: a meal, a blanket, a ride, a smile. I promise that your act of service will be what you remember about this holiday, not the pain of your divorce.

So...Go to it!! Happy Holiday Season and make it a merry Christmas!
