Our Wayward Children

Salli's Divorce Support Blog

Four of my five children are active in the church and raising their children in a way that makes me proud.

My fifth child--still single--in currently not attending church. Not only that, but he's acquired habits that exclude him from the temple. This challenge breaks his mother's heart.

It's not unusal that children of divorce have a more difficult time finding their way in life. I know, it can happen whether or not parents get divorced, but when divorce is part of the child's equation, mother's often carry deep regret that their child was required to endure the unfortunate circumstances.

As I pondered my sweet child's situation the other day, I picked up the scriptures to gain some encouragement from the Lord on the matter. He didn't fail me!

Here is what I read:

2 Nephi 9:53:   "And behold how great the covenants of the Lord, and how great his condescensions unto the children of men; and because of his greatness, and his grace and mercy, he has promised unto us that our seed shall not utterly be destroyed, according to the flesh, but that he would preserve them; and in future generations they shall become a righteous branch unto the house of Israel."

What a loving, helpful message from our Heavenly Father!

For those of you who have children that have strayed from the safety and peace of the gospel of Jesus Christ, I hope this scripture helps you, too.
