The Divorce Prayer

Salli's Divorce Support Blog

For the last 3 or 4 years, I've issued a reoccurring plea to the Lord: "Please, bless us with just enough trial to stretch and grow us, but no more than is necessary for us to learn the important lessons challenge brings."

Since we've come to earth to learn from our experience, and a lot of that experience comes through facing trial, we can't ask for a 100% tribulation-free life. But since earth-life difficulties are meant to educate us, I repeatedly ask the Lord to only give us enough to mature and develop us--and then take the trial away!

During divorce, we face a lot of difficulties that try us in ways we haven't faced before. It can be pretty overwhelming when one problem after another hits us--especially because we are already bruised and hurting.

But when we realize He doesn't give us more than we can handle, and when we trust that the trial will be taken from us as soon as we've learned the valuable lesson, we can walk with confidence that we will not be overcome.

Somehow that notion comforts and empowers me.
