A Thought of Notable Worth

Salli's Divorce Support Blog

Reading from the Book of Mormon this morning, I read a passage in Helaman 4:14 that sparked some ideas:

"And because of their great wickedness, and the boastings in their own strength, they were left to their own strength; therefore they did not prosper, but were afflicted and smitten, and driven before the Lamanites, until they had lost possession of almost all their lands."

One of the great blessings of facing trial in our lives, such as the challenges divorce presents, is that when we turn to the Lord for guidance, He can strengthen and prosper us. When we humbly recognize where our power comes from, we will come through the fiery furnace of affliction and find we are in a much better place than we could ever have hoped.

Unfortunately, humility and meekness do not come without effort on our part. Too often, like the man falling over the cliff, who prays to be saved, when he suddenly grabs hold of a tree branch, says, "Never mind, Lord! I'm okay!" never acknowledging the Lord's hand, and assuming he was saved by luck or his own wit and cleverness.

I don't know about you, but I don't want to risk losing the Lord's sustaining powers! I want to stay open to His plan for me and be patient through all challenges He allows into my life.

Besides, His plan is always better than mine and I will get so much further with His help.

Have a great Sabbath day!
