Divorce is a time when we may feel we need to be at our best with our children, our friends, our extended family. We may believe that others have a need to see us strong and capable of handling our challenges.

But even more so than showing strength to others, we may feel we're better off if we show our strength rather than giving in to our sorrow. In our hurry to get past the grief and move on with our life, we may decide there is little use in tears.

But let's be realistic...

I've never known anyone who has not felt a whole lot better after having a good cry! Crying is the best way to release those pent-up negative emotions; emotions which, if kept inside, could do harmful damage.

When we allow our tears to flow our whole spirit will open and heal, rather than constrict and shut down. Just as a caterpillar, before it transforms into a butterfly, turns to mush inside the cocoon, so must we break down a bit before rebuilding our new life.

So take time for tears! We all could benefit by becoming more comfortable with tears and in learning to experience the invaluable healing that crying can bring.
