"Sometimes good things fall apart..."

"...so better things can fall together." Marilyn Monroe

I love this quote I found posted on FB today! It speaks to a truth that we often don't allow ourselves to embrace. That is, that in the dissolution of something that has previously existed, perhaps room is made for a better situation.

Back in 1988, there was a terrible forest fire in Yellowstone. I remember thinking, at the time, how tragic it all seemed that such a historic and scenic natural treasure was destroyed. How could things ever be the same in our country due to the loss of our most famous and picturesque natural landmark? To me it felt like a catastrophe.

But about three years later our little family decided to travel from our home in Oregon to visit the national park. And guess what we found? Though there was a notable loss of timber, the lack of trees opened the view to lakes and mountain vistas previously obscured. In amongst the charred trunks and branches were wildflowers galore! And the hills and vales were covered with new, green vegetation. To us the park appeared gloriously beautiful!

It was a good life lesson to learn.

I must have made a subconscious mental note back then because, years later, I recall knowing intuitively before I divorced, that the time had come in my marriage for a major renovation. The prospect of change seemed terribly frightening and disruptive, but in the back of my mind I knew the only way things would ever get better was for a ravage, of sorts, to take place.

Thirteen years ago, I had no idea how much better life could be!

I’m not saying the only way for things to improve is to tear them down, but sometimes we don’t have a choice. So during these periods when devastation is inevitable it’s good to keep your eyes on what the future can hold for you. Wonderful things can emerge from the ashes of our lives.

And look for that new view…it's incredible!
