An Amputation Without Anesthesia

Salli's Divorce Support Blog

They say some divorces are "good" divorces.

I suppose that means that valiant, long-term attempts were made to revive (or salvage) the marriage and the reality of continuing on together is determined counter-productive. Yes, I guess a marriage characterized that way could be considered a "good divorce".

If that is true, then my divorce was a "good" one.

But even still...the separation felt like an amputation without anesthesia.

Does a tree suffer when dead branches are pruned? I can't say, but I can affirm that even though I knew divorce was the next most reasonable step for me, it still felt very painful. I came to appreciate how audible moaning can actually relieve the spirit.

I  moaned a lot that first year (privately, of course...alone, late at night, while the kids slept).

But just like after all good prunings, new buds sprouted in the spring and they blossomed. Eventually, fruit appeared, matured, and ripened.

And now I enjoy an abundance of...juicy, fat plums!
