To Want What the Lord Wants

Salli's Divorce Support Blog

At my age (mid 50's), I've come to embrace a simple truth that seems--at least for me--to make life much easier. That truth is to simply let go of all that I think I want and to say to the Lord, "Thy will be done."

It's not that I've let go of my hopes and dreams for a wonderful future life that I long to enjoy, but I've come to a comfortable place that allows me to be willing to forgo those personal ambitions for the mind and will of the Lord.

There have been many times in my past when I thought I knew what I wanted--and in some cases was willing to do just about anything in order to accomplish it--but at a critical juncture, a moment of humility, I turned it back to the Lord. That's when I discovered the Lords plan, which was far greater than I ever imagined it to be.

Because of those experiences, I have come to realize that there is no good reason to "attach" to any particular worldly outcome. Desire what we will, certainly, how can we not? And ask, of course; in this He commands us when the scriptures say, "Ask and ye shall receive."

But don't forget the caveat, "Thy will be done..." and mean it! Because the Lord's plan is always better!
