Little Children and Divorce

Salli's Divorce Support Blog

Little children can carry heavy burdens.

While they dig tunnels, roads, and build mountains in the sandbox, they can be reflecting on the angry words their parents shouted at each other over breakfast, or remembering their mothers sobs echoing through the dark in the middle of the night.

Little children can possess heavy hearts weighed by insecurity and unspoken fear. Divorce is part of the adult world, but it also affects our little ones.

As you face divorce in your own life, even though your spirit is heavy and your heart is broken, remember your children carry a heavier weight than you. Do whatever you can to protect them from the ravaging affects of your marriage dissolution. They are not prepared, nor capable, of dealing with the negative emotion that may prevail in your life right now.

Please, though divorce may be necessary, guard your children's innocence and shield them from needless misery.
